CORPUS CHRISTI - After revealing the new CCIA logo, PR representative, Kim Bridger explained the ongoing battle raging between our airport and the one in San Antonio.

"We really felt like we had an image problem here, in the community," said Bridger. "It's not a new problem, it is an issue, a challenge if you will, that the airport has faced for many, many years."

Bridger says that many local travelers choose to drive two hours to the San Antonio International Airport for cheaper tickets.

"We understand why they do it. And sometimes it comes down to cost, and we understand that too. We can't act like that's not a big issue, because it is," she admitted.

In an email from a spokesperson for the San Antonio International Airport, he says their officials are actively working to entice customers to do business with them.

"We are moving forward with a marketing plan and community outreach to Corpus and other cities in the valley to attract them to all of the international service to Mexico"

San Antonio is also conducting a study to see exactly how many passengers they get from the Coastal Bend area.

Bridger commented, "We're a smaller airport. We're not going to have the number of flights, we're not going to have the number of direct flights to destinations that some of our customers want."

And she says there is little they can do to change ticket prices. That's up to the airlines.

"We don't have any direct control over it. All we can do is try to communicate with them and try to tell them what our customers are saying."

Local resident, Kathy Davies, was flying to Fort Worth this morning and though she admitted she did not notice the new logos on her way in, she says there is no other airport she would fly from.

"Oh, good Heaven, it would be silly to drive to San Antonio, this is a great airport," Kathy said.
