CORPUS CHRISTI - Water customers across Corpus Christi will soon notice a new pamphlet in their mail explaining how the city plans on cracking down on people who don't pay their bills on time.
Starting next month, if you fail to pay your bill on time, the city will send just one notice that you have five days to pay up or service will be disconnected.
At that point you'll have to pay the full amount due in order to get your water turned back on. Previously, the city would allow customers to pay a portion of their bill.
Too many people have taken advantage of the system and fallen way behind on their bills.
"We're not trying to punish anybody. We are trying to make sure that all the citizens get a fair break," says Michael Barrera, Director of Utility Business Office.
Anyone in need of financial assistance can schedule an appointment with the city to reach an agreement or prevent problems.
