Cooler Theives Targeting Coastal Bend Fisherman

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Thieves are targeting high end YETI coolers across the Coastal Bend. The owner at Wayport Marine says thieves took 3 Yetis from his store recently, they also struck one of his employees, just two nights ago.

A fishing guide tells us his Yeti ice chests disappeared from his own front yard, and he caught them on camera. He shared that surveillance video with us.

"I have 3 Yetis," Steve Reupke told us. But, two of his ice chests disappeared earlier this month when thieves walked right into his front yard and on his boat.

Fortunately, they are caught on camera.

"They parked over here they got in the boat saw it was cabled down," Reupke said. "They got out of the boat got in the truck for cable cutters and came back to the boat and took the 2 ice chests cabled down."

It took them just seconds to grab the yetis, worth about $1,000 total, and go.

Reupke says since the time thieves took his high end ice chests, he's heard of several others being stolen.

It seems right now these are a hot item, targeted by theives. Police confirm they do have several similar cases, and some leads.

"I don't know who's buying them all, I don't think they're all selling online there's too many being stolen," said Reupke.

Reupke works as a fishing guide and uses his Yetis daily. So, he had to borrow some the day thieves walked off with his.

"There's nothing worse than a thief as far as I'm concerned, we work hard then someone comes and takes it from you,"

Reupke already replaced both Yetis, but this time he's made sure to bolt them down with titanium so that no one is getting this one loose.

"I tried to cut them out with bolt cutters and they won't cut," he said.

We asked his message for the two men caught on camera, his response? "Good luck next time."

He hopes with the help of his video, though, next time never comes.

"Hopefully these guys get caught before they try to steal again," said Reupke.
