Convicted Murderer Walks Free

LOUISIANA - A death row inmate is free this morning, after spending almost thirty years in prison.

A grand jury convicted Glenn Ford of shooting and killing a jeweler in 1983, but just last week, the state released that they'd discovered new evidence in favor of Ford's case.

A motion filed by the district attorney's office said, "If the information had been within the knowledge of the state, Glenn Ford might not have even been arrested or indicted for this offense."

They said the new evidence suggests that Ford wasn't even at the scene of the murder. However, some of the victim's family think otherwise.

The victim's nephew said although he still believes Ford was involved, he hopes the person responsible for pulling the trigger is found quickly.

"If that evidence was available 30 years ago, it might've had an impact on the verdict or on the sentencing, so we understand," said the nephew. "I think this is, really, a positive reflection on a criminal justice system, that seeks to do the right thing by everyone."

Ford was one of the longest-serving death row inmates in the country.
