CORPUS CHRISTI - It looks like the controversial entertainment complex will move forward, after a much-debated vote by city leaders.
City leaders voted in favor of re-zoning the land from residential to commercial, after listening to concerns from residents on both sides of the issue.
The "Movies and More" complex will house theatres, a bowling alley, and an arcade. For Jason Teague, the pastor of a church right next to the proposed location, that all sounds great.
However, he has one major issue with the project.
"Because the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises is a key part of the business model for the movie theatre and the bowling alley," said Teague. "I can't imagine that there will not be an increased risk beyond the simple increase in traffic to this destination."
Others think the risk is worth it, because the project will bring jobs, economic growth and something that's fun for the whole family.
"A business that will offer more family entertainment for an area that sorely needs it," said resident Sarah Tuley. "We're not talking about a bar or a club, we're talking about a movie theatre."
The zoning change still has to pass a second reading vote. If it does pass, the developer said he hopes to have the complex completed in time for next summer.
