Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, "I have a dream. That my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."
Little did the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Know that he was not only dreaming for his four little children, but for many African Americans.
"It's a day to remember what he did for us and how far we have come", 12 year-old Karine Flowers explains.
She recognizes that what the reverend did was no easy task. Fighting for civil rights in america took a lot of work-including many marches that Pastor Linda Baumheckel says were "Steps in the rhythm of sacrifice, steps in a rhythm of courage, steps in a rhythm of hope...".
Today, at the courthouse the pastor motivated the community of Corpus Christi to take their own steps in the march for the annual MLK celebration.
This is the 26th year the community has gathered to March for the MLK celebration and this year it is a little different because it is also the inauguration of the first Black president.
"I think it is great, Barack Obama and Martin Luther King shared the same dream, and I think it is going to go forth and do a lot for everybody", Roland Woodson shares while marching.
Unfortunately, this year was hard because many people were torn between watching the inauguration and marching. The march was at noon while president was sworn in at 10:30.
"Oh I would love to be at home watching it but this is something I do every year", Carlene Vassell says.
This is a tradition for many. Roland also walks every year with his father. His father passed a couple years back but that will not stop him.
"With him not being here I figure I would take his place and continue to march".
