CORPUS CHRISTI - The Padre Island National Seashore reports 44 more green sea turtles washed ashore on Wednesday due to cold temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico.
Since November 25th, more than 245 turtles have washed up, unable to move due to Gulf of Mexico temperatures dipping below 50 degrees.
Experts are caring for 216 of the creatures. Most are at the Animal Rehabilitation Keep of Port Aransas. Some were also sent off to be treated by the Gladys Porter Zoo, Sea Life Center, and NOAA-Fisheries Galveston Laboratory.
After the turtles are warmed up gradually they'll be released back into the wild.
Dr. Donna Shaver with the National Park Service expects to receive more reports of stunned turtles for a few more days.
