CORPUS CHRISTI -- More than 9 years ago, a 41-year-old mother, daughter and wife walked out of her Corpus Christi home and never returned. Her father waited tirelessly for answers.
Kathy Haskell is still missing and investigators continue to search for clues that may help them. "That's all my family," Paruca tearfully told us in a phone interview, "she's all that's left I'm not getting any younger, I sure could use her," he said.
Paruca died never knowing what happened to his daughter. Cold case investigator R.L. Garcia says he frequently called for updates.
"I kept in contact with him for a number of years, I got a phone call here about a week ago from her dad's best friend," Garcia said, "apparently Mr. Paruca passed away."
On his death bed, he asked him to continue calling to follow up. Kathy left behind her young son, Drew.
In 2003, Haskell's estranged husband, Andy Wen, said she left their house October 16th after discussing finances with him. "Sometimes I just assume, okay, she'll be back sometime real soon and other times, I just think this could be the very next moment, and I think gosh, what if she doesn't come back," Wen said in that interview.
Haskell's husband reported finding her car abandoned on the beach on October 17th, 2003. She left her medication and purse inside and detectives found no footprints in the sand around it.
"We searched the sand dunes both by air, horseback and vehicle, nothing was found in the sand dunes, nothing came out of the water that she had drowned," Garcia said.
Wen later filed for divorce and full custody of the couple's son. Detectives say he left the Coastal Bend and stopped calling for updates on his missing wife. "He hasn't contacted me in many years," said Garcia.
But even with no family to follow up now, Garcia says he would very much like to find out what happened to Kathy Haskell.
"Its kind of frustrating because she's a missing person, we don't have a body, so, you can't say that she's the victim of a murder," said Garcia, "we haven't heard anything about her, there's no activity on her life, its just like she just walked off this earth."
