LAGUNA MADRE - Corpus Christi Coast Guard rescued two brothers after their boat ran aground late Saturday night. They found the two just north of Green Island in lower Laguna Madre.
The Coast Guard said the 18-year-old man and 6-year-old child were going fishing when their boat stalled shortly after leaving the boat ramp. They called the coast guard around 5 o'clock but the Coast Guard had trouble finding them because the man's cell phone died.
Eventually the crew located the two from a helicopter and reunited them with their father. The ordeal lasted over five hours; the Coast Guard said if the two had safety equipment like flares or a radio they would have been much easier to spot.
