HOUSTON (AP) - Federal authorities say a U.S. Coast Guard petty officer has plead guilty to using a government-issued credit card to illegally purchase nearly $3,000 in electronics.
They say 28-year-old Brandon Lee Scott used the card in 2011 to buy himself a 55-inch high-definition television and two Android tablets. He admitted Monday to a single count of theft of government property.
Scott is scheduled to be sentenced April 29. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Scott, who lives in Dickinson, Texas, southeast of Houston, is out on bond pending his sentencing.
The investigation into the matter was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service and the Department of Homeland Security-Office of Inspector General.
