CORPUS CHRISTI - There's wasn't too much support on the Corpus Christi city council today for continuing a voluntary program for reducing the use of plastic shopping bags and the litter they create in our city.
After hearing stories from council members about their own experiences in grocery stores and on the streets, city staff was directed to come back in March with recommendations for implementing a plastic bag fee.
Some council members were opposed to the idea of a $1 per customer fee, like the one in Brownsville, but there was support for a 5 cent per bag fee.
