CORPUS CHRISTI -- Facing the likelihood of tougher water restrictions next month, city officials met Wednesday night to discuss proposed changes to their water conservation plan.
City officials said they will have to implement Stage 3 water restrictions if the area does not get enough rainfall over the next month. The city is currently under a Stage 2 water ban.
Under a Stage 3 ban, only hand-held watering is permitted. Also, sprinkler and irrigation systems can only be used every other week, and people are only allowed to wash their vehicles every other week. The dates are determined by the city's recycling pick-up schedule.
Under the proposed changes to the water contingency plan, Stage 1 (the only voluntary stage) would remain the same, and additional provisions would be added to stages two through four.
