CORPUS CHRISTI - The City of Corpus Christi wants to expand the use of community gardens and they are giving away "seed money" to make it happen.
Officials announced today that twelve grants, of $500 each, will be awarded early next year to those living in the city that submit an application with the Mayor's Fitness Council.
The city has seen success with its first community garden in Lindale park, which was dedicated back in May.
One of the goals of the project is to increase residents' access to fresh, healthy foods in an effort to improve community health.
Everyone is eligible to apply for these grants. The deadline to turn them in is January 31st., 2012.
