City Council to Vote This Week on Proposed Southside Entertainment Center

CORPUS CHRISTI - The City Council meets Tuesday to decide the fate of an entertainment complex.

This month two Town Hall meetings took place that got heated with those against it.

The owner of Northshore 8 is having a hard time driving his vision home, of an entertainment center on Staples near Yorktown that would have dine in movies, bowling, laser tag, arcade and 700 parking spaces.

City Council will vote on the proposal this week.

The idea has not sat well with some community members.

On April 29th a community meeting was held by those against the project.

"We question the exact location where they want to put it," Tom Corbi explains.

A few days later the developer held a community meeting of his own, and the project was attacked again. "I've been to a lot of community meetings in my lifetime, you suck as a p-r person," one community member says.

But not everyone is against the entertainment "megaplex".

Mina Jose has two teenage boys, and lives within walking distance of the proposed site. She thinks the entertainment center is great and would give her teenage sons something to do. "It will be an excellent entertainment session for my husband and I to go out and have dinner and a movie, and my kids can be occupied elsewhere, in the same building," Mina Jose says.

The developer says he really just wants to better the area and hopes the community realizes that. "Frankly, I'm stunned at the opposition. I really was blindsided. I'm just trying to build a neighborhood movie theater. I'm not going to build a zombie crematorium or anything like that," Jeff Dinger says.

Again, City Council will vote on the project this Tuesday, May 13th.

The developer hopes the city respects what he calls the 'rulebook' on project development because he feels he met all of the requirements.
