CORPUS CHRISTI - Yesterday a waste water crew caused sewage to flood Jose Vera's home. Well today the city sent a crew out there to clean up the mess.
A stinky, nasty mess is what Jose Vera had to deal with yesterday. He had raw sewage that came up from his toilets into his home on Cheryl Drive. He says the waste water supervisor told him this mess was in fact the city's fault. This morning he got a call from risk management saying the city would fix this problem.
"He said they were gonna accept responsibility and they're gonna take care of the problem," said Vera.
So today there was a cleaning crew out at his home to clean out all the raw sewage that covered his two restrooms.
Vera says the city is going to replace the floors, vanity, toilet, and anything else that was contaminated in his home. And so he doesn't have to deal with the smell and all the reconstruction, they are going to put him in a hotel for seven days.
As for his mother-in-law who was living with him... she has pneumonia, is paralyzed, and has alzheimers. He says she is now in a nursing home since she couldn't stay in his sewage filled home.
Vera says he's just glad the city is taking care of his stinky situation.
"I'm glad but man, I didn't want to go through this. I want to get all this behind me. Hopefully it will never happen again," said Vera.
Vera says an insurance adjuster for the city will be back tomorrow to look under the floor boards to see how extensive the damage is. At that time he says the city should have an idea about how much the damage will cost.
