HOUSTON (AP) - The National Weather Service says parts of East Texas and the city of Houston are under a tornado watch for most of Christmas Day.

In addition to the threat of tornados and severe thunderstorms, the weather service warns conditions for wildfires are ripe in parts of the Gulf Coast and South Texas.

The severe storms are resulting from a meeting between a cold front and warmer air that has lingered over the area in recent days.

Houston and areas north of the city are under a tornado watch until 4 p.m. CST.

Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the day to freezing. Parts of North Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth, could get snow later Tuesday.

Areas along the Texas-Oklahoma border could see a few inches of snow.
