CORPUS CHRISTI - The much advertised cold front that we have talked about for a couple of days swept the Coastal Bend early this morning around 6AM and brought some much cooler temperatures to the area and a lot of wind. Wind gusts this afternoon in the city were around 41mph. Many of the warnings/advisories that are in place early this afternoon will expire by the early evening hours with the exception of the marine advisories which will remain in place until early tomorrow morning. Mariners are urged to use caution on the waters for the next several days as winds will remain fairly breezy.
Tonight will be very chilly and well below normal for this time of year. Skies will be clear which will allow for excellent radiational cooling to take place, but I think the winds will stay a bit elevated around 6-12mph which will keep temperatures from falling into the 30s here in the city. Areas to our north around Beeville and George West may briefly fall into the upper 30s, but here in the city and along the coast should stop in the mid to lower 40s. If the winds do relax enought around 2-5mph, then the temperatures will quickly drop into the 30s. However, it does not seem like that will happen tonight.
Monday will still hold plenty of sunshine and will be spectacular as temperatures on warm in the upper 60s to lower 70s for a good chunk of the Coastal Bend. Winds will still be breezy, but a tad less than today, around 15-25mph with some isolated higher gusts.
Temperatures will remain below seasonal average until mid-week as moisture slowly returns back to the area and clouds will increase with each passing day. By Thursday and Friday, there is an opportunity for a few showers/sprinkles as a few disturbances move nearby, but rainfall amounts will once again be less than impressive.
Have a great week!
