CORPUS CHRISTI - Some local chefs want to bring a big helping of European cuisine and culture to the coastal bend. First, they need to make a scouting trip to 28 countries. Right now, the only missing ingredient is money.
The trip they plan to take, is about good food and interesting people, compiled into a European Tour Documentary. Team members with Culinary Crossings say they are driven by pure passion.
"Food brings people together, it's a time where family gets together and cooks and kind of unite each other in the kitchen, it doesn't matter who you are, everybody like food, everybody loves to eat," Megan Riojas said.
Riojas studied Culinary Arts, specializing in baking and pastries. Now, she wants to take her food frenzy one step further.
"Being able to experience different cultures and trying different types of food being taught traditional dishes by locals is kind of where we want to go and we want to experience that," Riojas said.
She's teamed up with two of her buddies, Jeremy who works at the Republic of Texas and T.J. Salazar, mixologist and wine connoisseur.
"Wine is my forte, I love sweet wines, crisp wines, dry red wines, I love all types of wine," Salazar said.
With a blend of culinary skills, the documentary will also include an extensive recipe book. The combo is their way of introducing food lovers, to delicious dishes from different parts of the world.
"Just interview people who are staying and visiting those countries and get their experience and their opinion of the food and different tastes," Riojas said.
They have many recipes they've whipped up at the click of a button on their website. Plus, more entrees are in the works and will be up for a taste test.
They're hosting a "Chef's Dinner" to raise money for the trip. It will be April 26th, at the Secret Gardens. They hope to launch their project forward with fundraisers, food and fun.
The adventure through Europe will start in May. The team will travel through the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and Norway, to name a few.
