Cell Phone Ban Leads to Arrest

CORPUS CHRISTI - The new ban on the use of cell phones while driving has already led to one arrest. This morning police tried to stop a man seen talking on his phone, but he refused to pull over.

When he finally stopped the car police say the found marijuana inside the vehicle. He's facing charges for possession of marijuana and evading arrest.

Police Chief Floyd Simpson says two of his officers will dedicate half their shift to catching people using their phones.

The plan is to issue warnings for the next 30 days. After that, expect a fine up to $500.

Drivers are allowed to use their phones if they are equipped with a hands-free device.
