CORPUS CHRISTI - The cell phone ban has been in place for about a week now, and police say drivers appear to be taking it seriously.
Captain David Blackmon with the Corpus Christi Police Department says he's noticed a dramatic decrease in the number of distracted drivers.
"It used to be every third car you see, the driver was on the phone. But now, it happens less often. Cell phone companies have reported being sold out of hands-free devices so that means drivers are taking it seriously."
A thirty day grace period is still in effect, so officers aren't issuing tickets, yet.
