CORPUS CHRISTI - Auto burglaries are down 16% since this time last year, but CCPD is concerned with the recent pawning of 13 GPS devices by the same person.
CCPD says a man pawned the GPS devices over the last couple of weeks at a local pawn shop.
"Who do you know that pawns 13 GPS devices?" Uniform Commander Mark Schauer said.
Though they've identified him, and say he has a criminal history, he's not a suspect, yet.
Police are conducting an investigation to see if the devices were stolen and, if so, from whom.
CCPD says out of the last 190 auto burglaries this year, 28 of them involved GPS's that were stolen.
They're warning people with the devices in their cars to hide them from plain view.
"When these crooks are walking around looking for something to break into, if they look in your vehicle and there's nothing in there but seats and a steering wheel, chances are they'll probably leave it alone," Schauer said.
Schauer also says when parked, it is important that drivers who purchase GPS devices to keep the serial number so it can be recovered more easily if stolen.
