CORPUS CHRISTI - A CCISD bus driver is out of a job, days after posting a controversial photo on Facebook.
The driver admitted taking the photo.
It shows two high school boys on her route with a bottle of apple juice, but the caption she wrote, as a joke, implied that one student was giving the other student a bottle of urine to help him pass a drug test.
The faces of both students were shown in the photo and they were identified in the caption.
This was the first real test of CCISD's policy on social media.
The driver told us the students thought it was funny, and claims she tries to maintain a positive relationship with them, as opposed to just telling them to sit down or be quiet.
However, a CCISD spokeswoman told us on Tuesday that employees are held to the same professional standards online as they are in the classroom or behind the wheel, and the photo and caption appeared to violate that.
The driver was called to the transportation director's office Thursday and handed a letter saying the district was terminating her employment effective immediately.
She claims, however, that the photo was never mentioned at the meeting.
Instead, "past job performance" was cited as the reason for her firing.
She now has 30 days to appeal her termination, and claims that she is already speaking with an attorney about a possible wrongful termination lawsuit.
