The City of Corpus Christi Municipal Information Systems Department (MIS) is pleased to announce that it has been notified by the Center for Digital Government that for the year 2009, the City is ranked as the number one digital city in the nation, for cities with populations of more than 250,000. Corpus Christi received its first place designation over such cities as New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, San Antonio, Plano, Miami, Kansas City and Honolulu.

The rankings are based on an annual survey conducted by the Center for Digital Government.  The study examines how city governments are utilizing digital technology to better serve their citizens and streamline operations.   “I’m extremely proud of what we’ve done to receive this great honor,” said Michael Armstrong, MIS Director.  “This award is very special because it honors an entire City government, not an individual or a department.  We in MIS are proud of the role we play in achieving this ranking, but the Mayor and Council, the City Manager and executive staff, department heads and employees are all integral parts of making this achievement possible.  No city in the entire United States uses and manages technology better than we do, here in Corpus Christi, and we can be proud that we are the very best,”  Armstrong said.

The complete list of finalists include:  1st – City of Corpus Christi; 2nd – City of Miami, FL and City of Tampa, FL; 3rd – City of Aurora, CO and City of Louisville, KY; 4th – City of Tucson, AZ ; 5th – City of Riverside, CA; 6th – City of Mesa, AZ and City of Virginia Beach, VA; 7th – City of Chandler, AZ and City of Kansas City, MO; 8th – City of Honolulu, HI; 9th – New York City, NY and City of Plano, TX; 10th – City of Houston, TX, San Antonio, TX and Washington, DC.

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.  Awards will be presented to the winners on November 12, 2009 during the National League of Cities conference in San Antonio.
