CORPUS CHRISTI - Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation offers a variety of classes during Fall 2012: Martial Arts, Fitness, Dance, Leadership... register today!
Stranger Ranger I & Stranger Ranger II Classes are offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department. These are anti-kidnapping and child-defense programs that are developed by incorporating proven life-saving techniques and different martial arts moves that are safe and effective for children. The "Stranger Ranger" curriculum teaches children how to avoid abduction, how to get away, and how to get help. This program is designed to help children at times when danger is near, as well as teach them good values, build self-confidence, respect, honor, and discipline. These are on-going programs set-up on a martial arts belt advancing system. The curriculum also includes games, role playing, tests, and fun competitions. Professional instruction is provided by the Primetime-Kidsafe Company. Cost is $35 for 4 weeks, plus a $10 seasonal registration fee.

Cheer I & Cheer II Classes will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department. Learn chants, cheers, dance, routines, and other fundamentals of cheerleading. These classes combine fitness with fun and is a great opportunity for youth to stay physically active. This is a great opportunity for the youth to gain experience in cheerleading and meet new friends! Come join the party! It's fun, different, easy, and effective, and especially designed for kids! It's time to kick-off the school year and have some fun! Professional instruction is provided by Texas Cheer Company. Cost is $35 for 4 weeks, plus a $10 seasonal registration fee. Introduction to Dance Classes will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department. Students will learn hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and contemporary styles of dance. This program is designed to get children moving and stay physically active while learning a variety of dance techniques and skills. No prior experience is necessary. The gift of dance lasts a lifetime! Professional instruction is provided by the Primetime-Kidsafe Company. Cost is $35 for 4 weeks, plus a $10 seasonal registration fee. Registration will be ongoing.

Zumba Fitness Class will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for ages 14 and older on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm-7pm at Lindale Recreation Center, 3133 Swantner. This fitness class incorporates Latin and international music with dance movements. This unique program will combine cardio and dynamic resistive exercises that will have you shedding pounds and looking sleek. This class is exhilarating, different, challenging and effective...so show up with your dancing shoes and have some fun! Professional instruction is provided by Johanna Ramirez. Body Sculpting Aerobics Class is offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for adults on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm at Lindale Recreation Center, 3133 Swantner. This is a great class to get in shape or to simply live a healthier lifestyle! If you are tired of feeling sluggish and need a way to get your heart rate going, this is the class for you! This program is a form of physical conditioning that uses low and high impact exercise to promote good health by increasing the blood flow to the heart and lungs. Shorin-ryu Karate Class is offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department for youth ages 6 to adults on Mondays and Fridays from 4:30pm-6pm at the Oak Park Recreation Center, 842 Erwin. Learn new street style martial arts that are different and exciting. This is a great way to learn something new and meet new friends! This program is designed to teach self-defense techniques in a safe environment while giving real life situations. Professional instruction is provided by Harriol Griffen. ATA Martial Arts Classes are offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department at Northwest Senior Center, 9725 Up River Rd. Students will learn a variety of skills that may include: instilling fitness for life, listening, paying attention, following directions, discipline, safety/self-defense, life skills, goal-setting, managing bullies, respect, and gain confidence & self-esteem. Professional instruction is provided by Young's ATA Martial Arts. All classes are taught by skilled, experienced, certified instructors who have each completed an extensive three-year teaching internship. Professional instruction is provided by Vincent Young.
