CORPUS CHRISTI - Jury selection starts tomorrow in the murder trial of Lawrence Mireles. He's accused of shooting 16-year-old Jenna Hernandez and leaving her body on Stedman Island.
Back in June 2012, the girl's mother told police Jenna left the house while texting Mireles and said she would be right back. She never came home.
According to police, they tried speaking with Mireles twice about her disappearance, but he ran off. Two days later, Jenna's body was found.
A witness in the case told police Mireles admitted he was high and drunk when he shot her in the back. Police picked up Mireles two days after her body was found.
The case is being tried in Nueces County because it falls within an extra jurisdictional area for the county.
This month Aransas Pass Police arrested two men accused of threatening a witness in the case and his family.
