Carroll's Hawkins 13th Pick in MLB Draft

CORPUS CHRISTI - History in the Coastal Bend was made Monday night when Carroll star Courtney Hawkins heard his named called at the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft. Hawkins was selected 13th by the Chicago White Sox.

Hawkins became the first player from the Coastal Bend picked in the first round out of high school. His father told me that the family still had to sit down and discuss his future, as he had signed with Texas, but said it's almost a definite that Courtney will bypass college for professional baseball.
Hawkins also punctuated his ascent to pro baseball with a back flip on the main stage on national television.
Chicago meanwhile had not selected a high school player in the first round since 2001, when the White Sox took right-handed pitcher Kris Honel at No. 16.
He now plans to return to Corpus Christi on Tuesday morning to re-join his team who will head to the Class 5A State Tournament in Round Rock on Thursday morning.
