CORPUS CHRISTI - On Thursday afternoon the Islander soccer team added two more local standouts as Carroll's Daniela Gonzalez and Yvette Franco each signed each with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. That brings the Islanders local signee total to 4 for their inaugural 2013 soccer class.
Franco, who has scored 20 plus goals this season, said the idea of being a part of the school's first soccer program was a big part of her decision.
"It just came right when I was about to graduate so it was a blessing to even have it here in Corpus, hometown," said Franco.
Gonzalez meanwhile, who anchors the Lady Tigers defense, was excited to join the new program, especially since her sister Cecilia is already a member of the Islander Cross Country team.
"When I was a freshman I remember my mom was like if only they had a soccer team then you could go there with your sister and then it happened so now I'm going and it's great," said Gonzalez.
