CORPUS CHRISTI -- A mother turned to the media after a driver -- who ran a stop sign -- hit her 16-year-old son and took off.
We took our camera to the intersection of Carroll Lane and Capri where the teen was hit Monday morning and sure enough...we caught several cars doing the "rolling stop."
According to the Corpus Christi Police Department for a stop to be legal, you have to completely stop the vehicle.
That means none of the wheels can be rolling before you pull away.
Clayton Harries says he was riding his bike on his way to wrestling practice at Carroll High School when a car hit him.
He says the driver never stopped at the sign to look for pedestrians or bike riders.
He said, "I didn't even see the car coming."
He caught himself before being knocked over, but he still sprained his knee, in the process, and the car never stopped.
Clayton's mom was a mess when she heard the news.
She said, "It freaked me out because I had just woke up and I got a call from the nurse saying he was hit."
Clayton's using crutches now, so he won't be riding his bike or going to wrestling practice for most of the week.
It's something he's not very happy about.
He said, "I would tell them to pay more attention to the signs and possibly they need to retake the test, the driving test."
There's a high school and elementary school near the intersection so the mother and son hope people hear this story and just stop before someone else is hurt.
