CORPUS CHRISTI - Police have identified the man accused of threatening people with a pair of tree pruning shears to steal their vehicles last night.

Police say 23-year-old Ruben Cardenas tried carjacking numerous people on North Beach with the shears.

They caught up with him shortly after the incidents and had to tase him after he fought with officers.
A waitress at Blackbeards was one of the victims and said she lied when the man demanded the keys to her car. It was a decision that might have saved her life and her vehicle.

Candi Buchanen said, "It just popped out of my mouth without even thinking, 'this isn't my car, I don't have a car.' And that's what I told my mother later, it had to be the Lord that came over me."
