Cargo Ship Fire

CORPUS CHRISTI - You may have noticed thick black smoke in the area of the Port of Corpus Christi this afternoon.

It was coming from a fire on board a ship docked just under the Harbor Bridge.

This picture was taken by one of the firefighters who responded to the fire just before three this afternoon.

It took more than an hour to get the fire out. It started in the storage hold of the ship.

Sky cam video shows the thick black column of smoke that poured out of the ship before the fire was put out.

Some wooden cargo supports in the ship caught fire but it's not known how it started.

One firefighter had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
