CORPUS CHRISTI - Narcotics officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department seized 20 pounds of marijuana and a little over 8 grams of cocaine last night during a traffic stop and the search of an apartment on the 2200 block of Capitan Drive.
According to police, the apartment was under surveillance as the result of a Crime Stoppers tip about suspected drug dealing in the area. Officers pulled over a vehicle seen leaving the unit just before 10 p.m.
A K-9 unit was able to locate 11 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle driven by 64-year-old Abel Salazar. He's charged with felony possession of marijuana.
After the traffic stop, officers spoke with 39-year-old David Moreno back at the apartment they were watching. Police say they could see marijuana inside the apartment, so they requested a search warrant for the residence.
During the investigation Eluid Esquivel showed up at the apartment. Police say he is the owner of the 9 pounds of marijuana, 8 grams of cocaine and $14,520 in cash they found during the search.
Esquivel is charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Moreno is charged with possession of marijuana.
