CORPUS CHRISTI - Once a year people set aside one weekend in particular to bring the family together: Easter.
"Grandkids coming out and everybody seems to start knowing now that, hey, this is where we go camping on Easter," said Camper Lorenzo Garcia.
With some people off of work on Friday, a few headed out to Labonte Park to set up for a weekend jam packed with fun Easter festivities.
"Sometimes we go across the street and play kickball," said seven-year-old Elexa Ecsamilla.
Camping Easter weekend has become an annual event for most people at the park.
"We've been doing it for so long," Garcia said. "10 plus years so it's kind of like a tradition out here and everyone kind of looks forward to it."
This year, for some, though, is a way to keep other memories alive.
"My easter tradition has been all my life," said camper Joyce Lerma. "My grandmother used to come out here and she did it for many many years and my grandmother recently passed away but we are going to keep this tradition going so."
While some jumped straight to fishing for dinner, others got started on the tougher tasks like pitching tents. There are 120 camp sites this year. This year, organizers started issuing vehicle passes. Each campsite automatically gets 2 passes. Any visitors in cars, however, have to pay a $2 fee at the front gate. The purpose of this is to reduce traffic going through the park to provide the safest Easter weekend possible.
