CORPUS CHRISTI -- Facing a shortage of available substitute teachers, the Corpus Christi Independent School District on Monday announced plans for a job fair as they prepare to bolster their reserve of substitute teachers.
Despite having more than 700 substitute teachers on hand, they are still unable to fill all the classroom vacancies. "People can accept the substituting on days that work for them, but in many cases there might be days they can't work on that day," said the district's chief administrative officer, Dr. Roland Hernandez.
Another reason the district is having a difficult time finding substitutes, Hernandez said, is the pay which currently ranges from $90 to $110. Hernandez said he plans to ask the school board to raise the per diem pay for substitute teachers, something he said would probably attract more applicants.
The job fair is Mar. 6 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Garcia Elementary School cafeteria at Greenwood Drive and Gollihar Road.
District officials say interviews and pre-employment requirements will be completed during the job fair. All applicants must complete the online Substitute Application at www.ccisd.us, prior to arrival at the job fair. Call 361-695-7250 for more information, or assistance.
