Burned Business Still Up and Running

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fire to a warehouse on the city's westside. The fire broke out Sunday afternoon, destroying part of the Kennedy Wire Rope and Sling Company on Flato Road.
However, one employee, Carlos Franco, who has worked for the business for 16 years, said the business will bounce back.
The warehouse burned for roughly 10 hours while more than 40 firefighters worked to put out the flames. Franco said, the damage done at the business won't destroy the company.
"It's not going anywhere and this is not going to stop it," Franco said.
Fire officials said the majority of the damage happened in the main building, costing an estimated damage of 4 million dollars.
The flames destroyed everything inside the company's administrative building from work trucks to oil field supplies, including straps, ratchet straps and harnesses.
However, even with so much lost, most of the departments are still up and running, according to Franco.
"It's grown a tremendous amount - great, great company. You got this one building here and this one and two others, I don't foresee this knocking them down at all," he said.
The main building could take some time to get what employees call a new base station.
"This is basically like your base station. I'm talking about like your salesman and customers come in and want to place an order," Franco said.
Franco said thankfully the company is still open for business but the sight of the demolished building strikes a nerve.
"It's tough to see. It kind of hits in the heart," he said.
Investigators will continue to search for the cause of the fire once the hot spots cool down.
