CORPUS CHRISTI - A man found inside the old Celanese plant on Clarkwood Road told our photographer that he wasn't stealing anything from inside the building when he was detained this afternoon.

Police used a K9 unit to find the man and a woman while checking out a report about a copper theft in progress. The pair was found hiding behind a desk in one of the offices.

The man claims the couple had fallen on hard times and heard they could easily get into the building. An officer we spoke with doesn't believe his story. We're told both suspects had gloves and flashlights with them.

41-year-old Jimmy Thomas and 40-year-old Judy Guerrero could face charges of burglary. Police did not say whether they were able to take anything from the building.

The Celanese plant closed more than a decade ago when the company merged the operations with the facility in Bishop.
