CORPUS CHRISTI - A Corpus Christi man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend.
The mother of the victim says it's a bittersweet victory... but a victory nonetheless.
The mother of the victim, Vilma Garcia says, "I felt like everyday of my life I was in a hold...I felt like they were holding onto me and I couldn't do anything. Now no one's holding me anymore."
Vilma Garcia is finally unpacking the emotional baggage that she has carried for almost two years...
"I can be able to say, he's gone. Justice was made and we can go on and live..." said Garcia.
In June of 2008, her daughter, Dianne was shot and killed by her ex boyfriend, Charlie Bryant in her aunt's Houston home.
She says, "He was just greedy...he didn't want nobody else to have her."
She finally has found some relief.
Charlie Bryant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life behind bars.
"It's not going to bring my daughter back for sure...but he won't have a life, he won't be able to smell the flowers, he won't be able to touch the grass."
Bryant also received a ten thousand dollar fine and won't be eligible for parole until 2039.
Garcia said, "I'm very happy with it...He doesn't need to be on the streets."
It's a victory the family has long waited for.
And with Bryant behind bars, Garcia knows the time has come...to move on.
"I'm getting ready here in the next couple of days to go to the cemetery and sit with her for a long time and talk to her and tell her what happened and let her go. I have to let her rest..."
