CORPUS CHRISTI - A brush fire on FM 2444 near County Road 51 burned about five acres today. Fire officials say they're not sure how it started but noticed a burn pit at a nearby building.
No buildings burned and no one was injured but they say it was a lot easier to put out the fire because someone recently mowed the field. It took firefighters about 25 minutes to control the blaze. They say some nearby neighbors also stepped in to help.
"I ran and I went and knocked on the other door to call my dad." said Ricky Ramos who helped put out the fire. "We got the water hoses, we came over here and we started controlling it from over here."
A burn ban is still under effect so if some one was burning in the area he or she could receive a citation.
