KINGSVILLE, Texas - Junior Jamahl Brown has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of Week the conference office announced on Monday.
Brown led the Javelinas in scoring for the week averaging 21 points in the team's two games. He led the Hoggies with 18 points on Wednesday against the Texans of Tarleton in a 56-55 win. Brown, from Washington D.C., finished the week with 24 points against Texas A&M-Commerce in a 77-70 defeat. The junior's 24-point total is the most by Javelina this season not named Rashad Basey, who is the only other Javelina to have received a weekly honor from the league.
Brown was 8-of-13 from the floor against Tarleton and 9-of-14 against the Lions to finish the week at 63% from the floor on 17-of-27 shooting. He was 5-of-7 from the 3-point line against Commerce recording the most treys in a game by a Javelina this season. With the outburst, Brown raised his overall average from 9.8 points a game entering the week to 10.6 following the two games. In conference games his average is up to 12.3 points a game.
The Javelinas are on the road this week for a pair of LSC games. They head to Eastern New Mexico on Thursday before taking on West Texas A&M Saturday. Kingsville won games against both sides in January.
