CORPUS CHRISTI - With the temperatures reaching above the 90's, there couldn't be a worse time for an air conditioning unit to go out.
Over at Kaffie Middle School the entire air conditioning system broke down, forcing school administrators to cancel classes.
Miraya Deleon is a student at the school and she told us, "it was really hot."
She added that students were sweating in the classrooms.
School officials first noticed the problem when school started this morning.
They were able to get one of the main air conditioning units working, but it broke down again later in the morning.
The staff at Kaffie tried to keep the kids as cool as possible.
Mapuana Jones' granddaughter goes to Kaffie, and she says, "They had a lot of fans in there. And it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."
But eventually the fans weren't enough to beat the heat.
Miraya Deleon says, "It was really uncomfortable. And your like getting headaches because it was so hot."
Her sister, Haley Deleon, added, "I was sweating. I had a headache, and I just wanted to leave so bad."
Around lunch time, school administrators decided to let the students out for the rest of the day, contacting parents via their emergency system.
The students were pretty excited about being let out early, but the mini holiday isn't going to last long.
School officials say they were working on the problem and are fixing the system as quickly as possible. They tell us that the students will be back in class tomorrow.
