Boy Scouts Will Review Secret Files, Volunteers Since 1965

IRVING - The Boy Scouts of America will review secret files kept since the 1960s and meant to help prevent accused pedophiles from becoming employees or volunteers.

The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday that the group plans to share information with law enforcement officials. The screening process files are in locked cabinets at the group's Irving headquarters.

BSA leaders, in an open letter Tuesday, say the review will cover files since 1965. University of Virginia professor of psychiatry Janet Warren will do the study. Specific goals and design are pending.

A San Antonio judge last month ordered the Boy Scouts to produce some secret files in a civil lawsuit. A former scout was assaulted in 2004 and 2005. An ex-assistant scoutmaster was convicted and is serving 60 years in prison.
