NEW RIVER, Ariz. - A sheriff's bomb squad in Arizona on Tuesday will check a property where authorities say a former military ordnance specialist lost most of his leg after a military-grade explosive went off.
Maricopa County sheriff's officials say the blast occurred late Monday near Daisy Mountain in the New River area north of Phoenix.
The 49-year-old man's name hasn't been released but officials say he was helping renters move out of a home on the property.
The sheriff's office decided for safety reasons to not send in its bomb squad while it was dark.
