Bomb Squad Responds to 2 Suspicious Package Calls

CORPUS CHRISTI - It was a busy morning for the Corpus Christi Police Department's Bomb Squad after it received two calls for suspicious packages near downtown.

Around 9:00am an off-duty constable called police after a suspicious package was found at the back of the Staples Street Bus Station.

The package had electrical wires sticking out and appeared to have some sort of explosive device. The station was evacuated and bus traffic was re-routed.

Bomb sniffing dogs were brought in to check the area for more packages, but they didn't find anything. Bomb technicians removed the package and will investigate its contents then dispose of it.

Police are looking through surveillance video to figure out if someone planted the package.

About twenty minutes after the scene cleared at the bus station bomb technicians made their way down the street to La Retama Central Library.

They received a call from library staff that a suspicious package had been dropped off in the mail. The box had been wrapped oddly and staff grew concerned so they called police.

It turned out to be a box full of old pictures.
