Blown Tire Blamed for SPID Crash, Highway Closed for Hours

CORPUS CHRISTI- SPID is now completely open, hours after a scary rollover crash shut down the highway.

Police say a cement truck was eastbound at Everhart around 11AM, when the left front tire blew out. That sent the truck veering left into the concrete barrier and rolling over into the westbound lanes.

at least three cars were struck either by the truck, or by the truck's bowl has it came off and rolled several feet.

One of those cars flipped and landed on its roof, the female driver was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries.

At least two others were taken with less serious injuries.

The cement truck driver, who has worked for Alamo Concrete Products for over 20 years, was taken to be checked out.

The westbound lanes of the busy highway was shut down for hours as crews cleared cars and debris, and fixed the barriers.

The highway was opened completely just before four this afternoon.
