MATHIS - Three employees of the Coastal Bend Blood Center received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon in a bizarre incident on I-37.
According to CBBC VP of Operations Corey Survant, the bloodmobile was heading back to Corpus Christi when a work truck ahead of it lost a lid.
The lid flew straight into the bloodmobile's windshield.
Despite the lid smashing out the windshield, the driver of the bloodmobile was able to maintain control and pull to the side of the highway.
The injured workers were treated at the scene by paramedics for injuries related to flying glass.
According to Survant, the truck that lost the stray lid didn't stop, but the lid was recovered, and there may be identifying markings on it that will help to track down the vehicle or the company that owns it.
TxDOT says there is another crash in the same area just south of Mathis involving 18-wheelers. We're working on getting information on that incident.
