CORPUS CHRISTI - For those who have never been, Cirque Du Soleil is not your average circus.
"It is a circus, but with us. We are the animals. We are amazing animals."
We caught up with Danila Bim at the open rehearsal, several hours before the show. A native of Brazil, Danila says she didn't start off as a circus performer.
"Before, I used to be a dancer. A modern dancer. And then I started approaching the circus work, acrobat work, and then I decided to stick with it," Bim said.
Now, she dazzles crowds with her hoop act that takes place high in the air over the stage. But it takes hard work and discipline to be this good.
"We train a lot, in very different ways. Conditioning, strength, also mentally, because you need to be very focused. Because if you're not, that's when something bad happens, said Danila.
Danila says when they are not on stage or training, she and her fellow performers like to get out and explore whatever city they are in, and guess what they did with their free time Friday night?
"We saw the Art Walk."
And though she and her co-stars are miles and miles away from home, they become each other's family, working together to bring wonder and imagination to the young, and young at heart.
"When you go and you bow to the audience and you see that they really liked it, that they had a great time, I think that's the best part," she said, smiling.
