CORPUS CHRISTI -- The woman who organized and then cancelled a spring break event, because she couldn't pay for security, spoke out for the first time today.

The organizer claims a mis-communication led to the demise of last weekend's "Beach Fest" at Cole Park.

When organizer Beth Guarneri shut down Beach Fest on Saturday, the decision upset a lot of people because, some of the bands paid to play and never got to play and vendors said they paid to be there for three days, but the event only lasted a day and a half.

Guarneri said, "I think we could've used more help. Yeah, I think we could've used more help and maybe started a bit earlier."

As for what led to the cancellation of the festival...Guarneri called it mis-communication.

Off-duty police officers -- hired as security for the event -- walked off the job when they didn't get paid.

Guarneri says she didn't know she had to pay security before the event.

She said, "And then when they wanted it we didn't have that cash on hand. So, they decided to leave and we had to make the hard decision to close the two stages at Cole Park for safety reasons."

Guarneri and her attorney say the next step is to talk to the bands and vendors involved in Beach Fest and find out what they can do to make the best out of a bad situation.

The two would not say if anyone will receive a refund.

Guarneri said, "I feel really bad about the loss and hit they took. It wasn't intentional. The Beach Fest committee is not at fault."

Neither Guarneri nor her attorney would say if a profit was made from Beach Fest and who would get that money if a profit was made.
