CORPUS CHRISTI - While most families are going on Easter egg hunts and attending festivals, one family is trying to figure out how to come up with the money to bury their young son. Earlier this month 13-year-old Jesus Pleitez Jr. was lifting weights at Taft Middle School when he had a brain aneurism.
His family says he was in a coma for three weeks and just passed away on Thursday. With his unexpected death, his mother doesn't know how she'll pay for a funeral that costs $7,500. Today family held a barbeque fundraiser selling plates of chicken and all the sides. The money from the event will go towards Jesus' funeral.
"We're asking if anybody would like to come out and help every dollar counts and we love and appreciate everyone helping out and that's why we're all here today," cousin, Yvonne Lopez said.
Family members say they raised around $1,500 dollars today. If you would like to help too you can go to any Wells Fargo Bank and donate to Marie Pleitez in memory of Jesus.
