ROBSTOWN - Friends and family put on a BBQ benefit to help out the families who lost everything in a massive house fire in Robstown.
Back on Monday, a huge fire broke out at a home on Avenue E in Robstown. The flames quickly spreading to the house next door.
"It was a tragic accident. Nobody knows why it happened, but it did," said family member, Laura Montemayor.
Fire crews managed to knock out the blaze, but not before it claimed not one, but two homes.
Saturday, friends and family threw a BBQ benefit to try and get the two Robstown families back on their feet.
"We should try to help them out. They have nothing. I mean, my grand baby is only 6 months old and she didn't have no clothes, no pampers, no bottles and I felt bad," Montemayor said.
With residents buying BBQ plates and even complete strangers making donations of cash and food, family members couldn't believe the success they experienced when a community comes together to help.
"It's amazing because Robstown is a small community and to see everybody coming out and donating food they're dropping off sweets and dropping off donations."
A small town with a big heart, working together to help those in need, rebuild.
"It's amazing, I just can't express my thank you, my gratitude to everybody helping my family out," Laura said.
Family members say they aren't done helping yet. They tell us that sometime this coming week, they will have a rummage sale to help get the family furniture and hopefully enough money to begin rebuilding their homes.
