CORPUS CHRISTI - Friends of 29-year old murder victim Patrick Brailey, threw a benefit for his family today at Gator's Sports Bar.

"He's definitely going to be missed. Because he would give the shirt off his back, last dollar he had, whatever you needed, he was there for you. He was definitely a true friend," said Christy Gustafson, a friend of Patrick's.

Childhood friends of Patrick Brailey say the turnout at today's benefit mirrors the kind-hearted nature of their fallen friend.

"He was one of the greatest people I ever met. I don't think I'll ever have another friend like him," said Gustafson.

"With this horrible thing that happened, you know, we just wanted to make it a positive thing and try to get as much help as we can for the family," said Cory Becker, one of Patrick's childhood friends.

Even total strangers to Patrick, flocked to Gator's Sports Bar Sunday to buy brisket BBQ plates and join in the silent and live auction, just to help raise money for the Brailey family. Cory Becker was one of Patrick's lifelong friends and says the family is still trying to cope.

"They're actually doing really well. Of course they're mourning, they're never going to stop. We're never going to forget him. We will celebrate his life," Becker said.

Gustafson said that she was shocked to hear the news of Patrick's senseless death.

"I just, I couldn't believe it. I mean that's one of the last people I ever thought I would get that phone call about. I mean, we're just trying to stay strong because that's what he would want for us. He wouldn't want any of us crying. So we're trying to stay strong for him."

The benefit went on until 10 o'clock, as several hundred people stopped by to help out or pay tribute to a man that these friends won't soon forget.

"He was kind hearted, a big hearted person, man. He would do anything to help anybody out and steadily tried to keep people out of trouble," Becker said.

Officers are still searching for the suspect that shot into the crowd.
