CORPUS CHRISTI -- With Thanksgiving Day now less than a week away, a group of volunteers gathered items to make special holiday baskets for the needy.
They call themselves the Basket Brigade.
Sean Daniel Olivares started the group last year to help make Thanksgiving special for ten families.
This year, he and other volunteers will bring holiday baskets to 30 families.
Olivares said, "Because we need to not just because it's the right thing to do. We need to do it because there are people out there who have needs that need to be met and those of us who can, must, that's what it comes down to."
The baskets include a turkey and all the trimmings.
The group has been collecting money and items for the baskets the past few weeks.
Once they're assembled, volunteers will drop the baskets off as an anonymous gift to the needy families.
Child Protective Services and Corpus Christi Independent Schools helped the group find families in need of the extra food.
Volunteer Kristen Bily said, "This is our ability to say hey we're thinking about you during this time and just have a good holiday just have a good one with your family."
